2020
The 2020 We’re Behind You scholarship recipient is Miss Namrata Darjee!
Throughout her high school tenure, Namrata was dually enrolled in Patapsco High School and Sollers Point Technical High School in the Biomedical Sciences Magnet Program. She volunteered at Johns Hopkins Hospital as a research assistant in the Hunterian Neurosurgical Laboratory.
In addition to serving as president of the Student Government Association her senior year, Namrata was a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and National Technical Honor Society.
Namrata will attend the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in the fall of 2020, majoring in Biology. Congrats Namrata! You have a bright future ahead of you.
2019
The 2019 scholarship was awarded to Miss Jasmine Griffin.
Jasmine received the Baltimore County Public Schools Ethics Award, an honor bestowed upon one graduating senior from each school that best exemplifies the values of Baltimore County Public Schools. She plays violin in the school's symphony orchestra and is a member of the marching band's color guard.
Jasmine held the office of class president during all four years of her tenure at Patapsco High school and Center for the Arts. During her senior year, Jasmine endured a rigorous course load, including several AP classes including English, Calculus, U.S. History, Economics, and Psychology.
Jasmine's teachers and counselors describe her as kind, self-motivated, other-centered, and inspirational. Salutatorian of her graduating class, Jasmine attends the Community College of Baltimore County. Congrats Jasmine!
2018
Because of the generosity of our donors, we were able to award two scholarships in 2018!
Whitney Dudley served as class president during her junior and senior year and was very active in community service through her church community and through Salvation Army summer camps. She is attending Towson University to study Business Administration.
Sarah Jones was a Straight A student and the class valedictorian. She performed in a total of 20 theatre productions during high school and won a variety of awards for her performances, including “Most Valuable Performer”. She is attending Pace University in New York City.
2017
The fund awarded its inaugural scholarship to Satia Longe in 2017. During her time at PHSCFA, Satia took advanced placement classes in economics, U.S. history, human geography, American government and politics. She was also captain of the school’s varsity volleyball team and a member of the mock trial team and the debate club.
Longe served the homeless as a volunteer for Neighbors in Need and lobbied the state Senate on behalf of Pataspsco’s once-shuttered Patriot Java Stop which was reinstated after a successful bill introduced by Del. Robin Grammer (R-6).
Satia currently attends Towson University.
Selection Criteria
The recipient will be selected in the spring by a committee of PHSCFA teachers and guidance counselors. The decision to grant the award is based on the following criteria:
- The recipient must have demonstrated and achieved a balance of academic success, leadership ability, and community service in his/her time at PHSCFA:
- Academic: The recipient must be ranked in the top 30% of graduating students at the time of selection and must have proven success with managing a challenging course load.
- Leadership: The recipient must have served in a leadership role in a PHSCFA club, extracurricular activity, or sports team.
- Community: The recipient must have demonstrated a commitment to giving back through volunteer work or community service during his/her time at PHSCFA.
- The recipient intends to enroll at a two or four-year college or university in the fall.
- The recipient demonstrates financial need, as verified by PHSCFA guidance counselors/selection committee.
- The recipient has devoted considerable time to extracurricular activities (can be PHSCFA sponsored, a community/religious organization, or part-time job/work program), exhibits integrity and exceptional character in and out of the classroom, and has demonstrated a commitment to leaving a lasting impact on his/her school and community, as determined by PHSCFA guidance counselors/selection committee.
